The Town of Canmore has adopted a set of environmental initiatives that involve the community in environmental stewardship. The goal is to help move Canmore towards a more sustainable future with less negative impact on the environment. The five environmental initiatives that are presently being undertaken are:
The above initiatives are being developed by the use of a five-milestone stage as follows:
Milestone 1 - Establishment of Baseline Data or Inventory
Milestone 2 - Establishment of Goal
Milestone 3 - Development of Plan to Achieve Goal
Milestone 4 - Implementation of Plan
Milestone 5 - Monitoring of Success
The Environmental Care programs are overseen by the Town’s Environmental Advisory Review Committee (EARC)
APWA - 2005 Public Works Project of the Year Award
The American Public Works Association, Alberta Chapter (APWA) awarded the Town of Canmore with the 2005 Public Works Project of the Year Award. This was awarded in the Environment/Sustainability category for the Town of Canmore's targeted 20% energy reduction among civic buildings.
