Responsible for the enforcement of selected Town of Canmore Bylaws and Provincial Statutes, Bylaw officers respond to complaints 7 days a week between the hours of 7:30 AM and 6:00 PM.  Service is of the utmost importance and complaints are responded to as quickly as possible.

Bylaw Services On Patrol for the month of November: "Operation Park Smart"

Bylaw Services is focusing on getting abandoned vehicles removed from Town streets  during November.  Abandoned vehicles left on the street create difficulty for snow removal crews in the winter.  If these vehicles are not moved off the street, they may be "plowed in" by snow plows later this winter.  Vehicles on the street, during plow operations, also make it more difficult for the equipment operators, leading to extra time to clear the snow.

During this time, bylaw officers, will be proactively patrolling the Town. All vehicles that do no appear to be moved on a regular basis will be issued a "72 Hr Notice."  This includes an orange sticker that is placed on the vehicle, informing the owner that the vehicle may be towed within 72 hours.  According to the Traffic Safety Act, a vehicle left on a "highway" for 72 hours is deemed abandoned.  The officer will then follow-up after the 72 hr time period to ensure that the vehicle is moved.  If the vehicle is, no charges or further action will be taken.  If the vehicle is not, then the officer could tow the vehicle and/or issue a ticket to the registered owner.  The fine for abandoning a vehicle on a highway is $230.  Vehicles that are legally parked on the street and moved every 72 hrs. will not be considered as abandoned. 

During their patrols, officers may identify other vehicles illegally parked (such as unregistered vehicles, vehicles parked on the sidewalk, vehicles larger than 8,000 kgs. parked off of truck routes, etc.).  In these cases, the officers may tow the vehicle and/or ticket the owner immediately.
